Discuss the Graphic Design Styles and Techniques of Propaganda and Persuasion used by the Nazi Government 1933-1939 ââ¬Å"Nothing is easier than leading the people on a leash. I just hold up a dazzling campaign poster and they jump through it.â⬠(Goebbels, 1934). By the time Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933, he already understood the power that propaganda could have on the masses; so quickly hired Joseph Goebbels as Reich Minister of Propaganda to control the news, media and art in Germany. Propaganda then grew to become a very strong and powerful tool for the Nazi party up to and throughout the Second World War under Goebbels power. Propaganda is the use of, usually, biased or misleading information within design, media, newsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The large sections of flat colour across the athleteââ¬â¢s shirt and body suggest the use of woodblock printing, relating back to the traditional Japanese style; that, and the use of the very traditional Fraktur font, restrains the poster from looking too modern or un-German. He has also positioned the athleteââ¬â¢s limbs to reflect a similar shape to a swastika, which is emphasised by her black shorts and the flag behind her. This shows how the Nazi party had a strong power over everything that the public saw, even to the subtle shapes created with a form. ââ¬Å"Goebbels believed that if Hitler was to give speeches, the people should be able to hear himâ⬠(History Learning Site, 2013) so made sure radios were sold as cheaply as possible and public places such as cafes and shops were ordered to broadcast Hitlerââ¬â¢s speeches so his voice and message could reach as many people as possible, making it nearly impossible to not hear him. Because of how cheaply wireless radios, or the ââ¬ËPeopleââ¬â¢s Receiverââ¬â¢ as they were called, were sold for, between 1933 and 1939 the number of radio sets sold in Germany quadrupled.
